how much should i sell my car for?

#1 Post by mattbiernat » Fri Sep 07, 2007 11:31 pm

I am leaving this country to do some schooling in Europe and I have to sell my car.
Honda Civic 1993, 154000 miles, it is a 4 door DX model, it has power nothing (except for steering i think). it has radio, no CD player.
here are the issues with it:
1. it was rear ended once (two months after i bought it  ) with a huge dent to its bumper, the trunk is also damaged but it closes. i once got a quote for $1600 to fix this.
2. the front seat has tearing ~6inch
3. the glove compartment doesn't close and is holding on by a duct tape
4. the tires are worn out and should be changed in 6 months
5. the timing belt should be changed in 20k miles
6. it got new axels!
7. according to my mechanic its in a good runing condition but its due for a tune up.
8. no cigerette lighter
9. the car has only one key
10. the windshield has ~12in scratch (using windshield wipers in ice cold weather = no good)
what do you guys think? kelly's bluebook wasn't very helpful as it rated my car as "poor" and wouldn't give me a quote. besides i think some of you around here could give me a real advice how much to sell it for...

Have mercy on your fellow human beings (and on that car)!
Bring it to the scrapyard, that's where it belongs.

The Civics were pretty good cars that seem to run forever...you might be able to get about $500-800...but that is just my guess.

I sold my 1995 Cavalier with 130K miles last year for $1000. I really regret letting it go, because it is much easier on gas than my Durango. I could really use it for running around town...

new axles are a good thing! I say harry is pretty close, selling it for 500 as is no warranty would give someone either a car for parts or something to go to church on Sudays :) Matt, good luck in your overseas duty, and I hope you will continue to contribute here.

I wouldn't go by that. I traded in a Fiat 850 Spider once for $300. A friend of mine saw it on a dealer's lot about a month later and I went to check it out. They were asking $1,300 and all they did was wax it! :x

850 Spider -- very cool (and quite small)!
X220 (4287-2W5, Windows 8 Pro) / X31 (2672-CXU, XP Pro) / X61s (7668-CTO, Windows 8 Pro)

Yeah, I really enjoyed driving my 850 Spider through the Colorado mountains. So what if some motorcycles have bigger engines. :P

Later I bought a fire engine red, Fiat X1/9. Loved that car too. My mother-in-law called it the "anti-suegra". These two Fiats have been my favorite cars that I have owned. After I bought the X1/9, I had my sights set on this car, but I never got to own one. Test question: know what it is?
