Very bad LCD Thinkpad x61s

#1 Post by megera » Sat Sep 08, 2007 2:01 am

Hello,

I own X61s for two months and very dissapointed with LCD -
it has very bad viewing angle. Is it common for X61S ?
My X40 looks much better, it's very comfortable for working.
Brightness of X61s varies considerably depending from viewing angle even for me when I work , which very irritates me. Another words - very narrow viewing angles, especcially vertical .
My OS is Linux, Slackware 12.0.

I want to return it back, but not sure what should I say :)

Tell Lenovo that you refuse to accept a machine that uses LCD technology from the 1990s.

You are correct that the X61 series has pathetic LCDs. This is the entire reason that I ordered the X61 tablet - so that I could get the SXGA+ LCD. I can honestly say that the SXGA+ LCD is FABULOUS. I absolutely love it and would never go back to those crappy LCDs on the other X61 models. Lenovo should be ashamed of still shipping those LCDs. It is an insult.

That said, DO NOT order an X61 tablet. Not until Lenovo addresses the SERIOUS design flaw that is causing the bezel to seperate from that LCD screen.

See this thread for more information about this problem: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=47509

Hi timendres !

I don't know if you've been to the official Lenovo Blog, but here is the URL: http://lenovoblogs.com/insidethebox/?p=93

I posted there also and have been in contact with a rep from Lenovo. You can monitor that thread because an official response to the bezel problems will be announced there once they have a definative cause and solution determined.

I can't tell you much other than that they are really looking into all possible scenarios for the cause of this. The process I was told will take some time because the problem isn't manifesting itself on every unit.

I don't know if any of you x61s owners are near Orlando, but I'd like to do a side-by-side comparison between the screens of the tablet and the x61s ...I just need an x61s.

I have a model of X61s that is ultralight screen and I have to say even that screen sucks. Also don't know all these talks about brightness, I put the brightness to full in room and it's not any brighter than the toher notebook I have which is Lenovo 3000 C200 which costs 1/5 the price this X61s cost me.

Also the X61s seems to be not that sharp either. I will try it in outdoor condition soon to see how the screen performs. Also wish I couls also adjust the contast and not just the brightness.

well, X61s has 180nits brightness for Ultralight Screen,
Undoubtedly it is brighter than other normal screen,
after comparing it with X32, found out X32 has a better viewing angle than X61s.
