Is Crucial RAM in any way better than Micron RAM?

#1 Post by none » Sun Oct 31, 2004 8:42 pm

Well any RAM works fine, I know Crucial is famous for stability... But is it any different to Micron RAM? I've had nothing but good experience with Micron in all types on computers.

As far as I know Crucial uses Micron RAM chips on Micron designed and manufactured PCBs. Some sources will market generic RAM modules as Micron, but they most likely do not use Micron PCBs and the quaility control won't be as good.

Hmm, but if a DIMM or SODIMM is branded with the Micron logo on the sticker, and has their part number and everything, that's all Micron as well I assume?

IIRC, Micron started Crucial as a way to sell their RAM modules directly to the consumer.
IBM ThinkPad T42p (2373-7XU): 1.8GHz/1024MB, 15" UXGA, DVD-RW, 80GB, 2200b/g.
T42 (2374-3VU): 1.7GHz/512MB, 14.1"SXGA+, DVD-RW, 80GB, 2200b/g.

From http://www.crucial.com/library/why_crucial.asp

"When you buy Crucial memory, you're buying directly from the largest DRAM manufacturer in America and one of the top three in the world. Crucial Technology is a division of Micron, a multi - billion-dollar company with 19,000 employees worldwide at facilities in Idaho, Texas, Italy, UK, Singapore, and Japan. We have more than 20 years of industry experience and are the lowest-cost, most efficient DRAM manufacturer, and many of the world's leading computer manufacturers use our memory. Crucial brings that same high-quality memory directly to you, the end consumer."

Crucial = Micron. Both are still based in Bosie and owned by the same parent but only Crucial sells direct to the public.
