I have a 200 GB internal HD partitioned into 4 drives. The first 3 total less than 100 GB. I have a 100 GB HD in an advanced dock.
Can I mirror the 100 GB HD to the first 3 drives on my 200 GB internal drive. Then if anything happens to the internal drive, I can just swap drives?
Mirror internal HD to docking station HD?
Mirror internal HD to docking station HD?
570 --> T40p --> T61
you mean like a sequential backup? Like you work during the day and come in and plug in and any changes that happen in that drive gets mirrored to the other? Well there's software for that and i guess there's also "Windows Briefcase" It's a specified folder that gets updated automtatically whenever there's new data.
Current - Thinkpad T410si - Core i3 330m, 4GB, 250GB 5400RPM, WXGA+, FPR, BT, Camera, DVDRW, Gobi2000, Win7 Pro x32

What's I was hoping to do was setup a continuous mirroring of the internal HD to the HD in the advanced dock. If the internal drive ever failed, the external drive would have all the data on it.
I am currently do a daily backup to a network drive, but that would mean I would have to swap the drives and then restore the backup to the drive.

Well i don't know about any software that does that. Maybe in Vista you can setup a Dynamic Disk or something (like software RAID1) but generally only hardware, does that. There is software out there that can incrementally update the drive based on the partition in the laptop but i don't know of effective that would be since it would probably use up your CPU to constantly be monitoring the partition for data changes.
Your best solution is to continue doing your backups and once a week do a full backup by creating a "Restore Disc" or something like that. That way if your drive ever fails you can just slap in your disc and boot from it and it will redo your drive as it was when the backup was created. Norton Ghost and Acronis have stuff like that.
Any data you're so concerned about loosing much should have multiple backups anyways, not just 1.
