Check out Audacity, I think it can do this but am not sure. It is one of the best (free) recording softwares I have seen till date.

Gator, I don't believe Audacity can record and play at the same time, if that is what he is trying to do. But if you have some nice PC speakers hooked into your Thinkpad you will hear what you are recording as you record it. I hope I understood the OP clearly.

I don't think I really understand what the question is asking. Why would you stream what you are recording? Is this some sort of webcast?

If you are looking for software that will record web streams, Windows may have some programs for doing this, but I am not aware of them. If you have access to Mac OS X there are several applications, arguably the best being Audio Hijack. WireTap Pro or the freeware StreamRipperX are very useful for this purpose, too.

Oh no particular reason, was just wondering if it were possible, and if so how (like i wrote above, karaoke on computer perhaps). I'll try the speakers thing out, though I didn't notice my speakers outputting what I was recording while the recording was going on.... will try it after classes.

So you mentioned a karaoke type thing, does this mean you have a microphone plugged into the Thinkpad? In Audacity, you can also record from a microphone, but I don't think you can hear what you have recorded until you play it back. But whoever is singing (or whatever) into the mic - they can hear themselves so why the need for the instant playback. but like I said, try plugging a pair of stereo speakers into the side of the Thinkpad and see if you can hear what is going through the microphone.

I can't hear anything through the speakers. Also, the reason I want to stream it is cause I sound totally, completely different to my ears then in the recordings (so ezier to modulate voice until it sounds right if i can hear it live).
