I'd say $250-$300, conservatively, if it's pretty enough...

If you can spring another $100-150, you can get a T42 with warranty.

A T40 with those spec's that is know to be in good shape, as you stated, is worth about $325. It's light on memory and wifi B isn't great.

A decent to new battery will run $25-$40. So I'd figure it's worth about $275 or so. If the AC adapter is missing, subtract another $20.

The most important thing is that you've seen the machine and presumably know that the video chip and USB ports don't have any issues - and that the LCD is decent and bright.

Glancing at eBay sales prices only tells a small portion of the story when it comes to used equipment.

Around $275 is fair. (Which means that I second George's appraisal...)

Just to add fuel to the fire, I just bought a T41 with six months warranty and complete (1.6 Ghz) on Ebay for $368 delivered!

So those out of warranty T40's are really only worth around $200-250, because many of them had issues. Read the ads CAREFULLY.

(I needed this one for my daughter for school and I did not have any cheap T4X units around. $400 is top dollar for her, as she is a COMPUTER KILLER.
If she keeps it nice, I'll probably re-up the warranty before it expires and she can use it into next school year as well - IMHO a T41/T42 is pretty much of a do everything machine for the average person.

I saw that one (T41), those are somewhat few and far between, but very nice to grab. Nice work!

Actually, if it's the one I thought, there is another listed by the same guy - grab it!!! --> http://cgi.ebay.com/IBM-T41-Thinkpad-La ... 0157791691

It is the same guy, his feedback is good, and as long as the screen is not cracked and there are no BIOS passwords, it is a safe buy. Warranty will cover just about anything else.

Someone needs to jump on that one if it is still out there. I am tempted just for resale, with the warranty I think it is a quick $450 machine easy.

A very good deal on a T41 with warranty, that would have been gone if it was SXGA!

Your daughter sounds like my sister  Granted her machine is an old Dell of mine, but I've had to source a fair few various parts that she's been more or less responsible for damaging (mainly AC adapters that she's tripped over...)

That T41, especially with the Dock II, is sensational value! Leaves a bit for buying a spare 72W adapter for when on the move, since the docking station requires a different adapter.
