Long time to go to sleep

I just got a T60 with XP from IBM as a loaner. I close the lid, BAM, it's suspended.

On my X61T though, going to sleep often takes anywhere from 5 seconds to 60 seconds. I've checked that I'm not doing Hybrid Sleep. Why does it take so long to sleep? Have you guys seen this issue?

I have had issues with taking a long time both to go to sleep and wake up. It's driving me crazy.

I removed Norton utilities and Access Connections and this made a huge difference in sleep and wake times. My sleep now takes around 10 seconds, but I still have problems on wake.

Waking up is usually fine, except for a dark screen, but that's video driver related. I'm running the beta drivers, and usually closing the lid and opening it again fixes the issue.

So, it looks like waiting for it to sleep is normal??

I've got the same issues as you guys do. It usually comes out of sleep quite fast, but it takes about 10 seconds to actually go to sleep, and that's about 7 seconds too long for my liking. Everything else works great though.

Last night, with a few apps open, it took about 48 seconds.

I'm wondering if it's a RAM thing. I only have 2 GB, and usually my total page file usage is over that, indicating that some memory is on the hard drive. So, the system has to do some writing to the hard drive before being able to suspend.

Possibly. I have 768Mb of ram and the page file is only 512Mb in actual size. I do NOT remove any applications or processes and my T41 goes to sleep in a small handful of seconds and wakes up similarly quickly.

One thing to check (something I have sprinkled in dozens of posts): Your CPU most of the time should be idling (i.e., less than 2 percent). Then, close your applications and disconnect your network connection before suspending (on the premise that you are going to move your laptop). ... JDH

Sorry, by page file usage I mean this:

Open up Task Manager, go to the Performance tab, and look under the System area. There's a page file entry, which gives the total size of memory + page file. Right now, mine is about 1979 MB / 4224 MB, but the meter indicates that I'm only using 1.20 GB of memory. So, this tells me that about 800 MB of memory exists in the page file, on the hard drive.

So, just curious, what is your total memory + page file usage?
