How to flash firmware for wlan card under XP?

#1 Post by maber » Wed Sep 12, 2007 9:05 am

Hi together,

I found some sites, where is described how to upgrade the firmware for the wlan-card in a T30.

Look
here
here
here or
here

Does anyone has an idea how to do it under XP? I tried it under ubuntu linux, but at the end it did not work. My colleague gave me some advises, and he could made it under opensuse 10. Before I install opensuse, I would like to know if anyone has already done it und XP, and can give me some advise.

With the latest firmware 1.7.9 the card can WPA under linux.

Thanks for your infos. :)

I've never flashed a Prism 2-based mini-PCI card, but I have flashed several PCMCIA-based ones under XP.

You need three things: 1) WinUpdate.exe (flasher), 2) Correct firmware (you can use WinUpdate to check the current firmware if you need to know the prefix, 3) A working device driver for the card.

Basically, you want the card installed with a working driver. Then run WinUpdate which will let you update the primary and station firmware.

One caveat... make sure your driver does not download a ram-resident firmware into the card. (I know that the Linksys driver does.) If so, you should be able to turn that off from the Device Manager's Advanced Properties for the card.
