ThinkPad Wi-Fi - Only getting 1.5 megs - need help!

#1 Post by gobears72 » Wed Sep 12, 2007 2:13 pm

All - I need your help....I've spent a lot of time on this and haven't been able to get it resolved.

I have a 10 meg pipe - and consistently get 8 megs of bandwidth when connected to it directly.

However, when connecting via wi-fi, I can only get between 1 and 2 megs....I use a SonicWALL TZ190 which can handle a/b/g - so the firewall throughput shouldn't be an issue (even turned off security services...)...I even spent time on the phone with SonicWALL support - so it's not a SonicWALL issue.

So - does anyone know how I'd only be getting 25% of my throughput once I switch to wi-fi? I've got an Intel 2200 b/g with my T43.

Thanks in advance!
LEE

is there lots of other radios around you? Even if you're connected at 2ft and it says "Excellent" with signal quality being on the low side you wont get good speeds. Signal quality is affected by intererence so maybe you need to change your channel to 1 or 11 or one of the others that all your neighbors aren't using.

Thank you so much for the reply!

I just tried all 11 channels....to no avail. In fact, I even disconnected all of my nearby electronics to make sure there was no interference on my end. There would be no other interference by neighbors, etc...

Any other thoughts? -- or anyone else?

Thanks!!

If you use Access Connections, edit your wireless profile and on the Wireless Settings tab, under 5. Advanced configuration > Settings..., you will see Power save mode. Set to Low for best network performance. You can also change the Transmit power level on this tab.

Another thing to try is to run Tweaktester from the following site.

Thank you GomJobber! Should I set both power mgt and transmit to the lowest setting for best results?

i don't use AC so i'll let someone who does answer that but the equivalent of "High Perfomance" or something indicating no power saving should do the trick. I have mine setup in Vista to save some power while on batteries but full when i'm plugged in.
