X61s Keyboard is lousy - I had to say it

#1 Post by ComputerMinder » Wed Sep 12, 2007 8:29 pm

I don't even know how to say it. They all say IBM/Lenovo has the best keyboard ever. My X61s which just a week ago has a pretty lousy keyboard. Almost no tactile response to my typing. I also have two other Lenovos an old 3000 C100 and a new 3000 C200. Mind you, the 3000 C200 costs about 1/4 - 1/5 the cost I paid for my X61sm (with all accessories) but yet it's keyboard is like WOW.

The C200 has a fantastic typing experience I can type dazzling fast on it, it's so smooth, the tactile response of its keyboard leaves me speechless. Actuall the best keyboard I have ever typed on is my relatively new 3000 C200 (which is actually the computer I bought to my girlfriend). Even my girlfriend which is not a geek like me started typing on her new 3000 C200 and went like wow.

Now back to the X61s. What can I say. I am having typos all the time and I tested I write so much slower on it. Besides that, there is almost not tactile response from the keyboard, it's like the keys are hard and remind some horrible desktop keyboards which have soft keys with lack of click response.

I can't understand it. Both my 3000 C100 and the 3000 C200 have better keyboards and I am not talking about the size of the keys or things like that. I am talking about the response I get from clicking. The X61s keyboard is not that horrible but definitly dissapointing to see it performs like that. Had I know it, it would make a good reason for me to go for the T61p instead (had the T61p have the same outstanding keyboard as the Lenovo 3000 C200 does).

Go figure... :(

X61s comes with either NMB or Chicony keyboard. You probably seem to have the latter. Unrelated but this comparison will give you an idea.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.
