2nd Monitor Resolution problem

I've got a new T61p that I want to connect an external LCD to. I used to use it with my Toshiba and it worked fine, but on the T61p it doesn't show the full resolution supported by the LCD. It can go up to 1280x1024, but on the T61p it only shows 1204x768. On a normal CRT monitor it detects the supported resolution correctly. I don't know if it is a driver issue with the monitor & vista, or something to do with the display card. Any help appreciated.
Current: Dell Precision M6500 (i7 Q740, 12GB RAM)
Backup: T61p 64606XG (T7500, 8GB RAM)
