380ED PCMCIA wireless card needed

#1 Post by k5ilf » Thu Sep 13, 2007 11:57 am

I am seeking a wireless card for this elderly IBM computer. I have a Proxima Skyline 4030, but it does not seem to function. Likely it is not compatible---anyone suggest on that will work.

Thanks for sharing

Hi Bill,

It seems that the 380ED does not support CardBus network cards, which unfortunately eliminates most of the wifi cards on the market. What you need to find is an older 16-bit wifi card. There aren't any 802.11g cards available that fit that description, but there a few 802.11b cards. I think this would do the trick:

I have seen them on eBay for under $25.

The LinkSys WPC11 will also do the job, if you can find one.

3com XJACK b/g will also work, it is 16-bit.
