What Services Have you Disabled?

#1 Post by teknoT42 » Mon Nov 01, 2004 4:18 pm

Hey All,
Disabling services can increase your computer's performanceh
I have disabled the following services from services.msc:
Remote Reigistry
Secondary Login
Security Accounts
Security Center
Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing
Web Client
TCP/IP NetBios
Telnet
Themes

What other's would you recommend me disable for optimal performance?

...if you're bound and determined to minimize the number of services running on your ThinkPad. I mentioned this site in your previous posting on the very same topic!

The web page reviews all possible services initiated by Windows XP Pro/Home SP2, providing a brief description of each service, its default status under SP2, along with a recommendation on whether the service can be safely turned off or not (refer to Default XP Home and Default XP Pro for the default status for a given service; refer to Safe Setting to see whether the service can be safely turned off).

Most of this stuff can be managed without trying to do it with services. I don't disable any services at all. I do manage what runs (look around and check setups) and my CPU runs at less than 2 percent 99 percent of the time on both IBM Desktop and IBM ThinkPad. ... JDHurst
