MS Optical mouse doesn't have features over USB hub

#1 Post by synapse » Mon Nov 01, 2004 6:27 pm

Hi-
I am using a KVM switch and a Microsoft USB IntelliMouse Optical and I found out that the assigned functions of the buttons don't work over the KVM switch. I have the left-hand side button set to be SHIFT in the MS Mouse software (v5) but it no longer works since I started using the KVM switch. Does anyone know anyway to fix this? Thanks-
-Dan

Buy a better KVM. Cheap KVMs don't emulate the intellimouse right.

That's the only way? I read in reviews that this one did just that and that it worked. Hm... guess not... :? The KVM emulates the special keyboard buttons right.

most USB kvms don't emulate mice right at all. they act as a "generic" mouse to the system and don't give you a proper passthrough of all buttons. solution? get a KVM that doesn't emulate the mouse at all. I'm looking at one that has a PS/2 port for keyboard and mouse, but it also includes a 4-port USB hub that is switched between the machines. it's mildly annoying because whenever you switch boxes you effectively "unplug" your USB devices from them, but it insures that you'll keep full functionality.
