Power consumption by thinkpad components

#1 Post by AdaSch » Sun Sep 16, 2007 12:52 pm

Hello,

Anybody know how to check, how much energy is using by thinkpad components like LCD, CPU, GPU, BT, WLAN, RAM, CHIPSET

now W500, W700, X301, X120e,T43p
before T23, T40, T43p*2, T61p*3 (I hate Nvidia),

The literal answer is to attach a voltmeter inside your Thinkpad while it is running.

The general answer is that - in most cases - LCD uses the most, followed by WLAN, then CPU, then GPU, then HD, and the rest trivial amounts.

You can easily use Battery Properties to monitor the power consumption while running on a battery. You can then play with turning off things like wireless or dimming the backlight (or even turning off the LCD if you have an external monitor) to see their impact.

If you are looking for more battery life on a T43p, I strongly encourage you to run either NHC or RMClock and undervolt the CPU as this will make the system run longer and cooler.
