Need miniPCI wireless for my T30

#1 Post by swhi1106 » Sun Sep 16, 2007 8:34 pm

Can anyone suggest a miniPCI wireless card that will work with the Thinkpad T30 and where it could be purchased?

Thanks.

I really like the Intel 2200BG in my T40, but you will find many fans of Atheros-based a/b/g cards on this forum because of their greater range. Be aware, though, that if you use a non-IBM card that you have to use a program called no-1802 to bypass the BIOS check and boot the system normally. This process involves installing the new wifi card, burning a disc image with the no-1802 program on it (downloadable from many sites on the web), booting the computer with the disc, and running the program. After that, the computer will startup normally and you can use the card.

Regarding where to buy, you could list a want ad in the forum's Marketplace or use eBay. I have used both to purchase my wireless cards. Hope this helps.

You've basically got two (2) choices; the hard way and the ea$y way :). I just went thru all this and its been painful to say the least. But here's the scoop:

Ea$y - You buy an IBM certified component for maybe $75 that doesn't require smoke and mirrors to make it work. It costs you more, but its PnP.

Hard - You buy one like the above mentioned 2200BG (which will not be recognized by the T30) for maybe $20-$25 and then you have to DL the no-1802, burn it to CD, reboot your machine with CD as primary boot device, run the untility that flashes the section of ROM on wifi cards, then shut down, install the card, and reboot. Next go to Intel's site and get the driver package for the 2200BG (and your OS) and try to get the drivers changed over and working. It may take a few passes to get all the ducks correctly lined up. My 2200BG is working just great now for about 36 hours and I pray it keeps going.

Whoops! I spoke too soon. Rebooted tonight and NADA. Not even trying to connect.

Do a search, use my handle, and you can read why I'm considering anger management as a way of life.

Hmm, odd. My 2200BG has been running my T40 without a hitch for the last 10 months or so.

In my T30 I put in an Intel 2100 3B. These sell v cheaply on ebay as T4x owners upgrade to G speed. I booted the T30 with a DOS diskette and ran no-1802.com (see wiki) (its tiny and will fit on the diskette no probs), overkill to burn a cd. I downloaded the driver from the IBM/Lenovo driver matrix of the T40. Works great!

Hi, Ive just found this forum and have been reading thought the wifi related t30 threads.

Ive just bought at used T30 (2366) for £100 and am wanting to use it wirelessly with a number of WPA secured networks around the country etc.

I beleave that the cisco wificard (fru 26P8367) only supports WEP encription, or drivers are not avalable for it, or somthing? also that its only a 11Mbps card. (not that thats such an issue)

Hence i think im looking for a replacment internal wifi card? Such as the Intel 2200BG?

Im also interested by the comments that the Atheros-based card, as increased range would be a bonus for the planned aplication.
- But obvously im very keen not to screw up my new baby...!

Photo of my card: clicky

I successfully used an Intel 2915ABG in my T30 before I changed to the 108G Atheros-based card (see my signature).
The Atheros shows the 01C9 error at a (cold only) boot, but after pressing the Esc key, it works perfectly every time.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

Wrong! You first have to run the program, otherwise you can't even boot your ThinkPad. I had this issue with my T40.

Network card installed: Unauthorized network controller found blabla

Removed the network card, ran the program and VOILA! 8)

What OS are you guys using?

I've read this is a "linux image", and from what I've read is unrelated to the OS I am running, but I just want to make sure that I will not have problems doing this. I already have the image burned to disc and the card ready, I just worry about doing stuff like this.
