did you just install ms office? I think it does that to highlight the new installs.

Yeah most of those themes are designed like that. I use 101dpi, it makes everything just a little bit bigger without messing up the icon size.

I've had it installed for a bit. It stays red though. It still is. It's quite strange. It's the only red bar in a sea of black.

On an unrelated note, maybe you can offer some advice. For some reason, after functioning perfectly all last night, Windows Messenger refuses to open and run now. The shortcuts are the same, etc., and when I click on one, I here the computer going, and see the little HD light flash, and the hourglass comes up, but then nothing. It doesn't appear in task manager or anything like that.

Do you know what the deal with that is? Very strange...

Grrr... Okay, I just rolled back to the theme before, and "de-patched" the thing that needed to be patched to run that theme. Now, my XP theme is COMPLETELY GONE! I only have the ugly windows classic theme. I want my Fisher Price back!

On the other hand, just as I had expected, windows messenger is running flawlessly again...

Very interesting. Now I just have to figure out how to get my XP theme back, as it's gone from the selection menu.

EDIT: Okay, i repatched, and everything is back to normal. The XP theme came right back, and now windows messenger is working again... Oh, and for some reason, the microsoft office thing was highlighted because of being a new program. Not sure why, as it's really not very new.

I don't know what's going on.

I like the XP style simply because it looks good.

Sorry, to bring up this poll again, I´ve been off for business.

I don't see whats so bad about the new one...it is faster than the classic in most cases...less mouse movement if you click on start.
Ok, you are right, it´s not that bad ...
jeah, it looks nicer and more colourful at all, no question and it seems to be a little bit faster as well.
But the HD dit not expand! You only got an explorerwindow. Maybe there is a easy nip do expand it ??
I will use it for now. But I am also sticking with the toolbar-solution. IMHO its the fastest way to "scan" your HD (menu-speed ca. 10ms), at one click access.
It´s pretty nice when you have a lot of data, looking for something and finding it rapidly!
(furthermore on external and network drives!)

P.S.: Guess what is standing in front off me?
Right, my new factory sealed T42p ..... sweet!

later ...

Gotta love the new XP menu - adds far more functionality...but you gotta use the silver color scheme instead of blue!

I cannot vote on this. I do not use windows at all. Colleagues at work call the XP style Telly Tubby Windows which seems to be a reference to a TV show for Children by the BBC (I think.)

So, I am indefferent to this one why not epand vote with the I couldn't care less option?

What functionality exists with the Fisher Price menu that does not exist in the classic? I didn't see any. There *is* functionality in the classic that is *really* useful that does not appear to exist in the Fisher Price menu. Specifically, I can add any program directly in the Start button like UltraEdit, Windows Explorer classic style, WinZip and others. I can't do that (at least not that I can see) with the other.

Like Classic, in the XP menu I add just about anything to the start menu by dragging & dropping.

Still possible. Simply drag your icons to the top of the left column of the XP-style start menu. The place where the Internet Explorer and Outlook Express are located by default is freely configurable.

Actually you can drop just about any icon (drives, folders, files, tasks, control panel, network connections, etc, etc, etc) directly onto the Start button or where ever you want it to appear above All Programs.

And you can click and drag to rearrange any time.

And you can add your own link with an icon as a last entry in right-hand pane.

And you can add your own picture to the left of the user name.
