Depends on how much, and what, video clips and/or audio files you access from the web. Probably the best things you can do for your system is to make sure your disk is defragmented, all non-essential programs removed from your Startup group and have as much memory installed as possible.

I suppose you meant "560X"?kingman99 wrote:I have windows 2000 on a 650x
If you have never used QuickTime, then it's safe to uninstall it. I just uninstalled it from a Dell desktop computer several days ago and that didn't affect other programs. You'll still have the Windows Media Player, which can play most types of media files.

Now that sounds like my problem. I have 80% of my memoray and l don't need to defrag.
How do l get to the start up programs to eliminate what l don't need.
Thanks

Easiest place (but not where every program puts it):
Click Start/Programs/Startup
That program group will contain shortcuts to whatever has decided that it needs to be active when Windows loads. If empty (or emptied) that does not necessarily mean that everything has been removed.
There is another utility which normally allows you to view what gets launched at startup but it is a little dangerous to use if you don't know you're doing. I say "normally" because it's available in Windows except for Windows 2000. Here's some more info:
MSConfig startup for Windows 2000 users

QT
I think it's harmless to have around, as when you need it you need it.
That being said, it's also one of those obnoxious programs that puts itself in the autostart list, perhaps to check for updates. I'd opine that it would be a Good Thing to remove it, using MSCONFIG or the like.

You could uninstall Quicktime and install this alternate version instead:

I use Startup Control Panel to select which programs should start automatically. It is small (34k) and easy to use. Also, you can use it later on to start the programs you blocked if you need them.
FYI, Quicktime Alternative (QTA) has been discontinued due to pressure from Apple (?). You may still find sources on the Net, like the above link, through.RealBlackStuff wrote:You could uninstall Quicktime and install this alternate version instead:

As an alternative, you may try QT Lite
