X40 popular?

#1 Post by pphilipko » Wed May 26, 2004 9:27 pm

It seems that many more ppl are interested in the T series than the X. Is there anyone who bought an X40 from Bill yet? I'm just curious...

The problem with the X40 is that you pay a large premium for a much slower, essentially outdated computer. Until IBM offers faster processor options and Radeon graphics (as they did when moving from X30 to X31), the X40 will remain a very niche product (2.7 lb ultraportable for typing, emailing, and web surfing).

IBM has just started advertising their "Thin" laptops on TV in the US so the popularity should increase.

A lot of industry attention for the past several years has focused on 15" screen laptops which appeal to the "bigger is better set" but aren't great for toting around.

CVS, I think the first part of your post isn't fair to the X40.

In its defense, it's not outdated by any means (yeah, firewire would be nice, though), but it's purposefully designed to be as small as possible, and aimed at the ultramobile user who travels a lot and needs a laptop for e-mail, typing, internet, and maybe the ocassional PowerPoint presentation. For this, it's plenty fast.

And when might we expect to see a 60GB drive for the X40? Has anyone heard anything recently?
