Replacing the CCFL of an IBM A31 notebook

#1 Post by Robbyrobot » Thu Sep 20, 2007 1:39 am

There's a very good illustrated guide for replacing the CCFL tube in an A31 here. The description is in English and German.

Great link Robby, I was curious how the procedure was. The instructions sort of dwindled after a couple of pages, but its still very useful.
The procedure should also apply to other thinkpad models, perhaps this link should be in the general hardware forum ?

The author noticed that too (the lack of text in the later pages), and may add something in the future.

I don't know... Ray (rkawakami) suggested I post the link here, but there's nothing against reposting it in the general hardware forum too.

I'd say for now since the detailed example was for an A31 (a 15" LCD from the looks of it) it should remain here in the RAG conference. Robbyrobot, can you ask the owner of that site exactly which type of panel was used? An SXGA+ or an XGA, and if possible, the exact panel FRU or manufacturer. There may be some differences in the construction of the panels between a Samsung and an LG and it would help anyone else who is going to try this be better prepared for the job.

Hi everyone,

I am "the owner of that site". Here there missing information: The exact modell number is: A31 2652-M5G. I'm sure someone can immediately find out which display type was installed in this modell. For now I can say that this is a Display with a resolution of 1400x1050, so I guess this is a SXGA+ type.

I'll try to add this information to the description by the end of the next week.

hello rkawakami,

jep, this is right. I already made some modification concerning the RAM and so on, but this has no influence to the important facts.
Original description: P4-M 1.8GHz (512KB), 256MB RAM, 40.0GB HDD, 15.0 SXGA+(1400x1050) TFT LCD, 8x4x24x/8x CD-RW/DVD, Wi-Fi wireless(MPCI), Modem(MPCI), Ethernet(CDC), IBM Secure Chip, TV out, Li-Ion battery, WinXP Pro
@ gator: thx, thanks too, for the offer, but I think till now my webspace is sufficient. But as soon as it is not anymore, I'll contact you and let you know.
