When would be the best time to buy a new T61p from now?

#1 Post by Diehard » Thu Sep 20, 2007 3:31 am

I've just given my T60 away. Now, I only have Z61t and can't play many games with it.

I have seen on eBay.com the price of T61's dropped quite dramatically. Now, It prices around 1000$ for new one, T7300, 120GB, 1GB RAM, nVidia video card..., but I really like the T61p because its video card. The price is now around 1599$(buy now) T7300...

I don't care much about the import tax because I'm an international student. I've bought 2 ThinkPads from the US and neither of them have to pay tax. The first one, shipping by USPS, was kept at the custom office. They didn't send me any notification card. It took my 2 weeks to figure out that they kept it and I had to go there to take it. When they asked me to pay tax, I told them that the laptop was used to support my study( I'm a graduation student in Software Engineering), and when I finish my study, the laptop will go with me. They made a copy of my passport and that's all!

The last one, used laptop shipped by UPS, took only more than a day to get to my room. I just signed then that's all!

IWS? as long as I am the owner, I just don't care much either because it's not covered in Germany, it would definitely be covered in my country!

Get back to my question so when do you think?

I forgot to mention that Euro exchange rate to $ is increase very quickly:), but PayPal is suck. It charges me a lot for money exchange. Now in market 1euro > 1.4$, but for PayPal, it is 1euro = 1.359$

The longer you wait, the lower the prices, the better the specs.
Penryn CPUs are going to be released Q1 of 2008.
Nehalem CPUs will be releases Q1 2009 - Nehalem will provide significant performace improvements, elimination of FSB, on chip memory controller etc.

If you can wait for a year or so, I'd suggest waiting for Nehalem
