Quick memory upgrade question on T40

#1 Post by beeblebrox » Thu Sep 20, 2007 9:34 am

Folks,

I am currently working on a T40 with 1GB memory, which needs to be upgraded to at least 1.5GB.

The internal memory is PC2100 266Mhz. DDR1
I know that PC2700 333MHz works just fine, but looking on eBay I see a lot of cheap brand memory on 400MHz DDR1.

My instinct tells me, 400MHz is just as good as slower one on that old machine, but maybe there is something that I missed.

So, has anyone had any experience with those speedy Rams on the T40?
Thanks for your cooperation...

Quick memory upgrade question on T40

#2 Post by Danny Manabat » Fri Sep 21, 2007 12:20 am

I have used the 400MHz DDR1 in my X31 which originally has the PC2100, but I have experienced no problems, hangs or blue screens from the time I installed the memory 2 months ago until now.

'Hope this helps.

Not sure what the T40 memory timing system actually uses but the memory modules are spec'ed in the tawbook as CAS Latency 2.5 (CL2.5). If you stick with a faster module that is also rated at CL2.5, then you should not have any problems.

yes, it helps. Thanks a lot.
It saves me a lot of searching time for the proper memory.
The 400Mhz parts are abundant. Slower ones seem more difficult to find.
