T60/Fingerprint Not Detected
T60/Fingerprint Not Detected
Hi there,
I'm having trouble as others getting the fingerprint software(installed, uninstalled and reinstalled) to detect the t60 embedded fingerprint device.
At login and using the software I installed, it says "please connect the fingerprint reader" or "no sensor detected". No Biometric device is listed in the Device Manager (XP Pro)
I called Lenovo, and they told me there should be a fingerprint enabled/disabled option in the bios in the Security section; the Lenovo tech checked and said he saw it there on his t60. I've updated the BIOS and everything else the Auto-Software recommends, and I still cannot see it.
Can anyone confirm that a Fingerprint option should be there in the BIOS as well?
I'm wondering if I have the same problem as someone else..The cable (it is a 'demo unit' we received yesterday) may have been unhooked when someone upped it to 1gb of memory in the past.
I would still think the option would be visible in the bios, however.
I suppose I should open the ram bay to check regardless, seems like an insanely complicated way of adding ram though.
Thanks,
jody

There should be a white ribbon cable that goes from the area under the finger print reader to a rectangular "push down" connection next to the memory upgrade slot. If you pull up on the white plastic square it should easily pop right out.
Edit: If there is no ribbon cable, maybe your demo unit came with out a functioning reader?

The fingerprint reader and UltraNav pad cable are supposed to be attached to the on board connector and the thin ribbon cable should be connected to the biometric sensor chip.
Your machine is definitely under warranty and if it was meant to come with Fingerprint reader then Solectron is not located far from where you live.
You can watch the following video if you have difficulty installing the DIMM:
Memory installation movie - ThinkPad T60/p.

You may want to look up that model's specs and make sure it was supposed to come with a fingerprint reader. It sounds like they added it for looks. If the board doesn't support it, it won't recognize it whether it's connected or not.
For what it's worth, the fingerprint options are in my BIOS menu under security. If you're not seeing them in your menu, then either that model wasn't supposed to come with one, or someone replaced the motherboard with the wrong part.

Having had a quick look through the HMM I only see different MBs for different GPUs. I would therefore presume that either the fingerprint reader is either; defective or not connected properly. In both cases it would probably not show up in bios.
