T42 port replicator II audio out problem

Need your help:

When I plugin my earphone to the audio-in hole on the back of Port Replicator, the sound still come out from the T42 speaker. Does anybody know how to change the sound? Thx

One can argue it's a design flaw, but all port replicators II do the same, including mine.

Just plug something into the T42 headphone jack.

I found a alternative solution to it:

Press the laptop MUTE button near the screen which only mutes the laptop speaker out not the docking station one

Um ... the mute button on my T42 mutes both build-in speakers and audio output on the port replicator II.

What you need to do is not press the mute button, but lower the volume to zero using the volume keys on the Thinkpad.
This does not affect speakers connected to the Port Replicator.

On my T40, the sound quality on the laptop is better than on the port rep II.
