A31 Wont Boot With UltraBay HDD

#1 Post by jrv331 » Fri Sep 21, 2007 11:44 am

I installed a second HDD in my Ultrabay, using the UltraBay 2000 caddy. Now my computer will not boot, it appears that it is trying to boot from the Ultrabay drive, which has nothing on it. I keep getting a " no operating system found" error and the system freezes. I tried putting the new drive in the main drive slot and the main drive in the Ultrabay slot just to see what would happen - same thing. It tries to boot from the new drive.

I looked in the BIOS under start up and have no option to tell it to start from the old drive. As far as I can see I have no jumpers on the drives to set for master/slave.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
John

Just an update but I could still use some help. My main drive is a Toshiba and the second is a Hitachi installed in the right Ultrabay. If I put it in the left side the computer tries to boot from it, when I go into the BIOS it doesnt even see my main drive. If I start the computer with the second drive back on the right side and the cdrw on the left side I get a bootmgr error and it just hangs. I have tried every setting I can think of but am banging my head against the wall here.
Any help would be greatly apprecieated.
Thanks
John

Did you format the drive that want's to be the primary? Have you tried to boot from your original drive without anything in the Ultrabay?

I got the system working right - for some reason my cdrw was the problem. I put the second HDD in the right ultrabay then tried a different cdrw in the left and it works perfectly. The original cdrw works fine, cant understand why it caused the problems. Just glad I had a spare cdrw drive.
Thanks
