partioning before cloning?

#1 Post by petemosss » Sat Sep 22, 2007 9:21 am

After reading Bill Morrow's great sticky on cloning a hd {thanks Bill!}I only wonder if any partioning has to be done before initial clone? I have had the new hd (hitachi 7K100 60 gb) recognized in the ultrabay in the T30 but never did anything more with it.

After initial clone I want to put old 40 gb into ultrabay slot in my dock II permanently for back up. Should I do the clone this way as well the first time or am I confusing the T30 as well as me doing it 2 different ways?

I had originally planned on cloning to the dock every time for back up but am exploring full and incremental back up via TI as well. Any thoughts or opinions are appreciated! (especially for partioning the back up hd in my dock.)

I have both Acronis TI 10 and Disk Director Suite 10 on cd in stock.

Thanks! Pete

If you clone disk to disk in Acronis it will make the new drive just like the old one and will ignore/eliminate any previous partitioning. You do not need to partition before cloning.
