DVD Problems

#1 Post by bazciscor » Sat Sep 22, 2007 11:31 am

Hello. Occasionally when I put either a DVD or CD (audio) into my Thinkpad (Matshita DVD-RAM UJ-832), the operating system (XP, SP2) crashes. Specifically, the blue screen appears for a few seconds, then XP will restart automatically. After the restart, it works OK.

For months I've been experiencing problems getting the DVD player to play. It would usually require me to open the bay door, then close it. Afterwards, apparently, the DVD/CD would be detected, and all would be well. The past two months though, the O.S. would crash as described. No other problems with XP. My Thinkpad is one year and one month old - no problems.

Please advise...

Please make sure you're running things in DMA mode.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

Check to see if you have DLA enabled on your drives (this is not DMA that ryengineer is referring to). Open My Computer, right click on your DVD drive and choose Properties > DLA. Make sure box is unchecked to Enable DLA on your drives. See if this helps.
