T-42 Adding wifi pci card

#1 Post by SlamX » Sat Sep 22, 2007 12:57 pm

Hi all I am new to the forum and just got a near new mint condition T-42

It does not have the internal wifi card and I want to put one in.

Question does it already have the antenna wires pre installed so all I have to do is hook them up to the wifi card.

Thanks

Johan

Go to the thread T4X specs and see the post of Sun Jan 28, 2007 1:35 pm and by that find your way to the ltwbook, entitled: "Personal Systems Reference, Lenovo ThinkPad Notebooks, 2005 to present - withdrawn (December 2006 - Version 316)" - it's located --> here ... it includes specifications on T41/p's, T42/p's, and T43/p's.

According to that, the T42's without a WLAN mini-PCI still should have (two) WLAN antennas already built-in the display. There may, or there may not, be a Bluetooth antenna also built-in (for more information about that, see the thread Have I BT antenna in my system?. All details about whether or not you have antenna(s) and other hardware in your T42 can be found in the ThinkPad Computer Hardware Maintenance Manual February (T40/p,T41/p,T42/p) - 2006.

If you turn to Lenovo's "Parts Information" page and enter your model number, you'll find all part numbers and movies (see the Movie matrices - Notebooks etc. showing how to add or replace e.g. your mini-PCI WLAN interface). Also, you may want to visit the Lenovo Service parts list index - ThinkPad .

NB: Try searching this outstanding forum for e.g "add wireless" in the T4x forum (use "Search all terms"), and many interesting threads may come up, such as e.g. T42 Wireless or Wireless upgrade on T40 or possible to add INTERNAL wifi to my T40? (doesnt have wifi).

Best regards,

Johan

it already has the antennas, just buy an IBM wifi card not any other as they wont work (without a hack) and you'll be good to go. A quick 5-10 min job.

All the T42s came with wireless antennas. Many had 802-11b cards and a few had b/g cards. If you can use a "b" card, send me a private message. I have some right in front of me.
