[old, codger voice on]

Used to maintain a couple of Data General 50MB disk drives back in 1982-84. The disk pack was about the same size as the platters in that picture but the drive itself was just a little bit smaller than the average clothes washing machine. The disk drive in the frame of the Nova 3 had a 10MB drive; 5MB removable and 5MB fixed. The removable pack was about 14" in diameter and 2" thick.

When you consider that the Secure Digital card that's being held in the photo can hold 200 5MB .MP3 files or photos, in the size of a postage stamp, it's just astonishing how much progress has been made in 25 years.

Even smaller then the SD card they should hold up a Micro SD card for some cell phones.
Or better yet hold up a 2 gig Micro SD card. That will be like two of those big units.

The SD card is so small that it took me a while to find the "now" part in the photo!

Looks like something from Los Alamos in WWII.

At first glance, I thought I had just seen a propeller hooked up to one of those at a recent vintage air show.
Common sense to some of us is unfortunately the higher education others strive to attain.
