Adapter types?

#1 Post by zzyss » Wed Nov 03, 2004 7:42 am

Does anybody know what is the difference between the different types of adapters? ie.

120W AC adapter
72W AC adapter
72W AC/DC adapter (OK this one is obvious, at least)
56W ultraslim AC adapter (OK so this one is slim... and??)

I presume they will all work with my T40...?

And why the heck do they sell these without the cable that actually plugs into the wall?
T60p (200784U) - standard (no upgrades... yet)

the 56W doesn't put out enough to charge a T42, not sure about a T40. it will *run* off the 56W, and it may actually charge very slowly, but the brick gets very hot and i feel rather dirty doing it. :P

If possible, use a proper 72W adapter.

the 120W adapter is needed for some of the larger G series and perhaps on some models of R? It's also used on one of the docking stations. The plug on the end looks like a PS/2 port or SVideo, not the standard pin-ring configuration on the 72W/56W adapters.

Also note that there are different flavors of bricks - those with two prongs and those with 3 (2 + ground). I still don't understand why the ones sold in the US are only two prong...

One good reason the adapter comes without a wire to plug it in to the wall is because the adapter is "world-wide." The "brick" can be used everywhere (110 to 240 volts), but you need a different cord to plug it in depending on where you are in the world. If you been to UK, you'll remember the large pronged plug that is huge compared to the US.

My AC/DC 72W adapter came with a US cord. The brick is also bigger than the standard 72W adapter. Haven't tried either of the other adapters...
