1920x1200 monitor on a T42

#1 Post by roggis2000 » Mon Sep 24, 2007 5:39 pm

I've got a T42 with a ATI mobility Radeon 9600 graphics adapter. Will this be able to run an external monitor with a resolution of 1920x1200 pixels? And is it a good idea performance wise?

my old GPU from the GeForce 2 MX series can drive a LCD with that reso, the GPUs in these systems can run as high as WQXGA which is that super high 2536 x 1920** resolution. That thing probably barely had 32MB of RAM or something. I think all you need is like 16MB for all that too. I think you are just used to CRTs a bit too much that suffered at higher resolutions because the refresh rate dropped all the way down to 60hz which killed my eyes too.

** = not exact figures but something.

I do it every day. 2D performance is fine. Video is no problem. 3D is whatever a 9600 will do. On simple games (Civ IV) - it works great. On the newest games you need to dial down the resolution.

Thanks a lot! Good to know that its not only possible but actually works nicely as well. I dont care about game performance as long as I get a large surface to spread my work across.
