A22m CPU not running @ rated speed

#1 Post by TonyV » Mon Sep 24, 2007 7:53 pm

First of all I like to say Hi all, first timer here.

I've got a A22m, P3 1Gmhz, 512mb, DVD, XP sp2. No Battery (new one in the mail)

My question is: when I click the " System Information" icon in XP it tells me I'm running @ 697Mhz.
But when I took the A22m apart to upgrade, I noticed that there was a 1GMHZ CPU already installed.

I did a quick CPU speed test using a Freeware program called CPUSpeedhttp://www.wizard-soft.com/ and indeed it is a 1G MHZ processor.
I also check the bois @ XP startup and it also shows a 1G MHZ processor.

I've tried changing the power settings in the "Control Panel" but it had no effect.

What's the deal?
I'm I running @ 697MHZ or 1G MHZ?

Thanks
Tony

Welcome to the forum!

The deal is called XP. It's showing the speed that the processor is presently running at.

Press F1 while booting and access the BIOS page. All the important info, including the processor speed and type are there.

Hope this helps.

I did check the Bios and it does state that there is a 1G Mhz installed.

My question is why does it show 697mhz in the "System Infomation" in XP.

Could it have to something to do with running without a battery?

Thanks again

Maybe you missed the not so subtle hint ajkulla66 spoke of. I'll fill in the gap here. XP will show what your *actual* processor speed is at idle (you have a speed step enabled processor). Try running Media Player or some app that makes your machine work hard and then open up the system prop page.

If you want to run your machine always at full throttle then that adjustment is in the BIOS under "Power" settings, "CPU Power Management". F1 gets you into the BIOS. Give it look.

Lastly, it has nothing to do with not having a battery other than when you pull the plug it would be 0Ghz.........lol.

Take some time to get to know your machine.
