Please Help - Wireless Internet Connected but Not Working

#1 Post by agaifafe » Tue Sep 25, 2007 6:26 am

Hello

I have a problem with my wireless internet on my T42. I have only recently attempted to use the wireless and have the same problem each time.
The T42 says that the wireless internet is connected. The icon at the bottom of the screen displays a connection and everything appears to be fine, but no internet applications will work.
I have tried to connect to the internet with IE4, Firefox, Netscape, and Opera, and tried windows updater and skype. I get the same message that an internet connection is not available even though the T42 says I am connected to a wireless connection. I have tried this with three different wi-fi connections and the same result.
Please help as I really have no idea why this is happening.

Many thanks
David

Do you have a firewall program running? You may need to set it up properly so it will not block your internet.

I had already turned the firewall off and the problem was still the same. I have also ensured the proxy settings in IE are correct. I´m not sure what else to do.
Should I find out any more information to post on this thread so my problem could be solved more easily?

Many thanks

First uninstall Access Connections (if you have it installed). Next follow the steps in the following link to reinstall your wireless driver. After a reboot, you can reinstall Access Connections if you desire.

Intel wireless 2200bg and 2915abg upgrade and installation problems - ThinkPad
[although this link was posted by cmarti some months back, it just happened to catch my eye this morning]

EDIT: You can get the latest drivers here: Drivers and software - ThinkPad T42, T42p Be sure and follow the installation instructions on the driver download page.

Are the access points you are connecting to secured by WPA or WEP or are they open?

Thanks for the help.

I managed to get a connection to the internet working though I'm not sure quite how, it just seemed to start working all of a sudden.
I am using windows access connections and it was connecting fine for most of last week but just tonight I had the exact same problem. The T42 was tellng me the connection was operational, but no internet browsers or applications would work. I rebooted a few times, turned the wireless router on and off, and connected and disconnected access connections, and eventually it just started working again with no changes to any settings. Can you suggest any reason whay it may be doing this?

Thank you
David

Perhaps take a look at the following two links.
Corruption at the Jersey Shore
How to recover from Winsock2 Corruption

I have also found the following tool from Microsoft to be helpful.
Using the Network Diagnostics Tool

Finally, realize that a software firewall can be the culprit. Turn off the software firewall and see if your connection is restored.

I have the same problem and I haven't (knowingly) changed anything.

However my wireless connection works fine at work but I have to do a "repair" every few minutes or so with my home system, Netgear Rangemax 240.

It seems to hang when I change pages...connection shows "Excellent" connection to router but I am unable to get through router to Internet, or when I do, it is much slower than in past. My wired connection through the router works just fine.

I had this problem about a year or so ago and it was fixed, until last week, by rolling by my driver to a 2005 version. I've tried the latest driver as well and still nothing.

I don't have Access Connections installed...I tried the Winsock Repair suggested but had to Restore to old settings because my VPN connection quit working.

This problem seems to only occur at home and I've rebooted the router numerous times...works after reboot but for only a few minutes. As far as I can tell, I've not done anything else to cause this...

I have T41 with Intel 2100 mini-adapter.

Any suggestions??
