Vista Aero - Is this the cause for the slowdown?

#1 Post by Kryptonic » Wed Sep 26, 2007 2:58 am

Hi guys,

I have a T61 with an nvs140m 128mb.... everytime i go into flip3d, there is a small pause before it brings all the windwos up fully, it looks like lag, but once its up i can spin through very fast.... if i pull them up again its still very fast.... however, if i leave it 30second or so its laggy again...... ive updated BIOS, drivers, windows, everything!

Because im running my res at 1680x1050, wouldnt that occupy more than 128mb on flip3d? so would the 3d card try and use some of computers main memory? i have 3gig so that shouldnt be a problem.... hooooowever, in task manager, it says vista is using 1.2gig, accept i only have a few meg free? How am i running out of memory? i have 3gig and vista only using 1.2gig...

Would this be the cause for the random slow downs? it seems to effect it more if i have this IE window open full screen.....

Cheers guys
Will

You're running the minimum system requirements for Aero
T42p - Pentium M 1.8Ghz, 1 GB RAM, 60 GB 7200 RPM, ATI Mobility FireGL T2 128MB
T61p - Core 2 Duo 7300, 3 GB RAM, 320 GB 7200 RPM, nVidia Quadro FX 570M 256MB

it gets 4.0 for Aero rating tho...

Image Just buy some R61 for 850 €. All specs are the same as T61 except screen 15,4" 1680x1050 not 14" 1440x900.

Core 2 Duo T7100, Quadro NVS 14m, crappy 5400 rpm drive, 1 x 1 GB, DVD burner, HDD airbag, fingerprint and so on.

I can't help now because I run Windows XP now. I will have a look later, time to swap hard disk.

PS : Best for Windows Vista Aero : Intel GMA 950 from Lenovo 3000 N100 (488 €) : 5,1 !!! It rocks [censored] fast...

Completely wrong.

He's way over the min. requirements for Aero. The GMA3000 or 3100 runs Aero as well, but performance might take a hit in that case.

Any DirectX 9.0 Shader model 2.0 GPU with 128 Mo can handle Aero Glass. GMA 950 can do it and it does it fine.

Did you have a lot of bloatware or background applications ? 3D flip windows is not so heavy application. Try to disable power play from the Quadro driver. Most time, it clocks down to 182 MHz and when power is requiret, it needs a few second to switch to full power.

Right click on desktop, nvidia control panel (or something like that), thus it can be very different from one driver rev to an other. Look at PowerMizer and set it disable. You have to search, I'am on the T60p now.

You're way past the min requirement. Don't worry. Even my T42 runs Aero glass decently.
