Backup X31 to SCSI Tape Drive

#1 Post by verktyg » Wed Nov 03, 2004 2:58 pm

I bought an X31 2885RGU, PM 1.6Ghz, with 1GB of memory and a 40GB HDD.

Is there a GOOD program that I can use for making Disk Images of my X31 WinXP NTFS drive using my Seagate DAT3 SCSI tape drive via an Adaptec SCSI PC Card?

The first time I started the X31, the IBM setup program automatically converted the HDD to NTFS! This ticked me off because I wanted to set this PC up to dual boot plus now I have to buy all new disk utilities!

I've been using Norton Ghost running from a Floppy Disk. I have Ghost 5.1, 2000 and 2002. The old 1999 5.1 version has been the most reliable and easiest to work with.

From what I've seen, these versions of Ghost either have problems with NTFS or they can't be used to do a restore because they run on DOS and they can't see the NTFS formatted drive.

Symantec bought out Power Quest; Norton Ghost 2003 seems to be PQ's Drive Image which doesn't support Tape Drives.

Any suggestions or should I just bight the bullet and get an external USB HDD.
Chas.

Chas.,

IBM R&R can use tape drives.

Got a copy of PM ver. 7 or 8? PM will convert your NTFS partition back to FAT32.
