T40p video memory upgrade

i have been using T40p for a while, just love it. I am wondering if I can upgrade the video memory to 128MB ATI Mobility FIREGL T2, the one on T42p. Any feedback is appreciated. thanks.

The only way to "upgrade" is to buy the T41p motherboard (since they are the same as the T40/T40p/T41 motherboard, but with the FireGL T2 chip soldered to it. However, this will cost you at least half the price of a new system, if not, more.

Only Dell offers upgradeable notebook video components at this time. Or maybe Voodoo and Alienware notebooks.

Just for the heck of it, I looked up the T41p with FIreGL T2 128MB main board and it's going for $1790 on the IBM.com parts site. FRU#93P3313... that's an expensive video upgrade. You'll probably be able to snag a T41p for $1790 in about six months or so, either via IBM's clearance rack, refurbished rack, or Ebay. The T40p was going for $1999 on the Clearance rack at IBM.com, so I'm sure the T41p won't be far behind when the next Intel refresh hits the marketplace later this year.
