T61/External Monitor Woes

In the last 3 months, I acquired a T61 and within the last week had the need to interface it with an external monitor. From the start it did not work. Called and worked with a tech person from Lenovo and we established that I should send it in to have the motherboard replaced (or whatever). Got it back today, plugged in the external monitor and it worked!!!.

I read on the data sheet of the work that was done that they changed the BIOS and (I suppose) that was the trick. However, after returning my system to a backup that I had from the 16th of this month, I find I am back to where I was before I send it out: no external monitor capabilities.

I talked with another tech person today and then downloaded and installed the latest BIOS but it still will not work. So, I am here looking for suggestions to this problem. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
UPDATE: I should add that the external monitor will work if I have it connected and boot into SAFEMODE. Also, the external monitor will display the Lenovo logo (etc) when booting up but will stop display AFTER passing the screen that has the Windows logo with the lights passing from left to right. At that point, nothing.

I had the same issue. My T61 external graphics connection did not work out of the box. I ran every angle and updated the Bios. I called the ThinkAdvantage folks and they had me run through their troubleshooting methods. They sent me a box I packed it and sent it back. Works great now. Don't try to second guess yourself. I had tried differnt monitors different bios settings and it just did not work.
