The screen is VERY good. As good as my 17" WUXGA on the dell M90.
See for WUXGA pics:

The flexview screens are still better, in that they seem to have better color "depth", and better viewing angles from the top. But I actually had to look at a flexview screen side by side to notice it.
EDIT: I played around with the gamma etc color settings, and now color depth is indistinguishable from the flexview screen.
The blacks are really black, the whites really white (same as the flexview).
I'll try to get some side by side pics in a few days.
Note the the spec

says that both SXGA+ and UXGA screens are of type
"wide viewing angle". Are they IPS ????
Now for other things:
The NC8000 does not look/feel as sophisticated as thinkpads. But it still is quite solid. A sturdy metal alloy lid, metal lid thingy(looks like) which snaps into the base when closed (looks really strong, way stronger than thinkpads). Palmrest is solid.
Keyboard/trackpoint are great. I did not like the trackpoint buttons though - too stiff, and not enough travel depth.
The sound is the best I've heard from a laptop. Reallllllly good. Powerful.
Has USB/firewire ports and an integrated floppy drive.
If you're looking for a cheap (but solid) laptop, I have no hesitation in recommending NC8000. The screen is 100x better than a regular T4x/T3x/T6x SXGA+ screen.
I unfortunately have not seen the more common NC8000 15" SXGA+ screens, but as HP says its "wide-viewing angle" it should be as good.
Anyone have experience with other (dell etc) 15-15.4" UXGA/WUXGA screens ?
