T30 system borad question

#1 Post by longfellow6-6 » Thu Sep 27, 2007 6:39 pm

Thanks for all the great help this group has already been to this newbie.

I know this may be a simple question to some of you, but I want to be sure.

I have already confirmed that my T30 needs a replacement system board - model 2366 BUx.

My question is this;
If the T30 original had a security chip, do I need to replace it with a system board that has the chip or can I replace it with a board that doesn't have the chip.

(From the Levano website) The FRUs are; 26P8422 w/o the chip for the system2 board or 26P8423 with the chip.

I have been looking for a while for this board.

Thought's, comments and advice always appreciated

A quick reply would be great as somehow I missed this earlier.
Only 2 hours until the auction ends

THanks

i was in the same situation and all information i could gather is that it will work, no matter what FRU
But my "new" motherbord come with lower case, so though i am convinced that it will fit and would buy it for a reasonable price
i cannot really confirm this Information.

You can see at
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-42335
that 91P76nn replaces 91P72nn/26P8nnn,
might be that those boards are improved
regarding the momory slot problem

I had the same problem with my T30, needed a new board.
Originally it had the System 2 board with chip, and I replaced it with a System 2 board without chip.
No problems whatsoever, so you should be good to go.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

Thanks so much for the input RealBlackStuff. I still had some concerns after Tom_k's response. Now I can't wait to to get the board and install it.

A great many thanks to this forum. I have gone from one who would never attempt to take apart a laptop, to taking it down to the shell. Lots of great advice and quick knowledgeable responses.

Best to all,
Keith
