My laptop has apparently been stuck in customs for 5 days

I ordered a laptop from IBM using UPS 2 day, the Laptop shipped out last thursday from hong kong and guess what its been in Ontario California from oct 30 12:00 AM

anyone had a experience like this? apparently theres a hold up at customs for some reason?

Heh don't feel too bad quite yet... I bought a T41p on eBay, and it was shipped on October the 12th. I just got it two days ago on November the 1st...

FedEx not only held it up in customs, they LOST IT before it ever got to Canada, and then they LOST IT AGAIN once it did get to customs... You're not the only one

Yeah, I ordered my TP on last Friday and I was stuck in customs for three days. I also had it shipped UPS two day but it was stuck in Kentucky for two and a half days but I finally got it and am using it now!

I got my laptop in 2 days. How so?

I picked it up at the customs broker office which was 30 mins away. I didn't want to take a chance with delivery delays.

you guys mentioned a lot of IBM laptops shipped out of HK to USA, Canada, etc....

are you guys buying it out from Bill, and shipped out this way from Hong Kong?

Yes, Canadian customs are trolls. Expect to receive a note from them asking you to go and pay some import duty before they release your TP or something. Or at least that's the impression I get from my cousins that live over there.

I imported my T40 from Hong Kong as well (but I live in Australia). Customs held on to it for about 3 weeks, but by some act of God (or DHL) it ended up coming to me without any additional fees being charged.

Have you tried giving the shipping company a call to see what the deal is?

I bought a T42 from Bill, and it got shipped to a friend of mine in the US, no problem there but then it got shipped to Australia via UPS.

UPS has the poorest service I have ever encountered.
It took me a total of over a month getting it here. I tracked it and for over a week it got shipped around in the US and after a week or so it was back in California where it originally was sent from. Then it took ages to get to Australia. The whole process to my doorstep was supposed to take 5 days.

Finally the PC showed up in Sidney but days later when it didn’t arrive on my doorstep I had to call UPS and ask for my pc, they told me it should be on its way soon. Ok then.

Days later when I got sick of waiting and called again they told me that they needed some papers, what about calling me up asking for it, no they just left my computer in customs.

This is not the only problem, I called and called to get the forms, only 1 person at ups were able to help me, someone called Chenell she never called back, I left message after message, nothing. And when I got her on the phone she made empty promises. The forms are in the mail etc. Nothing happened. Then suddenly Chenell went on vacation and I had to wait until she got back. (Is it possible UPS had ONE person in charge of customs, and when the person goes on vacation for 4 days nothing happens!!) I asked to be put through to someone else but nope, I had to wait.
I waited and called again when she got back. And she told me the papers had been sent, I got nothing. I also gave her my email with the promise she would mail me the forms but nothing came.

Then I started calling them 2 times a day for one week. I’m sure they started knowing me by name. Then finally I got to talk to some guy who gave me an internet address where I could download the form, why didn’t they do this at ones, ahhh the Incompetence.
I have to ad that I was never rude I was maybe to polite. But at the end I started getting furious on the phone. Can’t believe that should be necessary.

I realize this story seems rather absurd but it is actually the truth, I almost don’t believe it myself.

This is the light version of what I went through, so you can imagine how I felt sitting there without any computer (my prior PC I sold days before my T42 was suppose to arrive).

I have shipped with both DHL and Fedex and especially DHL have excellent service. I will never, I say never send anything with UPS again and neither will anyone I know nor anyone in my family.

So I’m not surprises that UPS have got your computer stuck in customs, also here in Australia they declare it themselves(they told me in the phone)so they cant blame anybody else. Ahhh guys, I can feel the anger returning..

So my personal opinion is, go with anyone but USP, I’ll go with DHL any day.
