[r60] aren't the temperatures to high?

#1 Post by joshrob » Sun Sep 30, 2007 7:04 pm

Hi,

Could anyone familiar with the topic of overheating look at the link:
http://hidebehind.com/9C664F

screen was taken on R60, set on the default "maximum performance" power theme, while browsing this forum.

Thanks,

This is totaly abnormal, [censored] too high. The laptop can reach such high temperatures but only under very heavy load and in a warm room.

Browsing the forum now with my T60p with an adaptive profile and no fan running :

1 CPU 55°C (0x78)
2 APS 40°C (0x79)
3 PCM 43°C (0x7a)
4 GPU 66°C (0x7b)
5 BAT 50°C (0x7c)
7 BAT 34°C (0x7e)
9 BUS 43°C (0xc0)
10 PCI 49°C (0xc1)
11 PWR 50°C (0xc2)

I was playing Oblivion in the evening and the maximum temps was about 80~85°C with fan at 3400 rpm. But I need to tell that my T60p fan assembly is a bit modded... Before, it was reaching 80°C for CPU and 95°C for FireGL during gaming and about 55°C and 75°C while browsing with the fan running at 3000 to 3200 rpm.

What can I do then? It is a warranty applicable issue?

I did some two other tests also.

The previous, posted before, was after several hours while working in Photoshop. But the temperature remained so high even after I finished working and started browsing the web. In my opinion fan should be able to cool everything down when the CPUs are not heavily loaded anymore.

So the tests...
First one: Maximum performance theme, laptop turned on and left on its own for 1-2hours http://hidebehind.com/002AC7

Second test: Custom theme, lowest CPU speed possible, laptop turned on and left on its own for 1-2hours http://hidebehind.com/8A689C

Hi,

1h websurfing and my Tp R60 has 48° CPU and 50° GPU.

On TP´s standard power theme, but Ati-Card is at low energy level.

I think you should call warranty service! Or blow an amount of compressed air in it, to free the Tp of some dust.

maybe that helps a little bit.

best regards

Man! You're the greatest!
Such obvious thing as dust, just did not cross my mind.

Blowing some air really helped. Now I also have around 50degC while browsing the net and finally the fan is able to decrease temperature after switching the "maximum performance" theme off.

Thanks :)

Btw. How can I control, as you mentioned it, "Ati card energy level"?

Hi joshrob,

nice that your heatproblem is blown away! :D

First: I´ve the lenovo video driver, with catalyst control center installed. But modded drivers are working similar.

So, if you want to get to the power control option, click with right mouse button on the desktop, the click "ati control panel", in the context menu.

Then the catalyst control center opens and further choose the power play options, where are able to select between optimised for battery or max power settings.

kind regards

Andreas

I have no CCC installed, so tht's not an option for me. Thanks for the answer, anyway :)
