I have Gentoo on my PC, since it is not an option, I voted for Ubuntu/Kubuntu.
It is deb based, good community support, well polished.

Hi

I would wait for Fedora 8 or Ubuntu 7.10
The best would be to install both and try out both. ;)

cu :)

I'm a big fan of the Red Hat lineage. I'm using F7 on my T60 and it works well except for the 3D desktop doesn't like suspend/resume so much. Yours doesn't have an ATI video chip, though.

Really, any of those would do fine, but FC6 is getting a bit old in the tooth. It also depends on how much tweaking you want to do. If you value stability above all, then CentOS could be a good choice. Ubuntu stays stable for a while more. Fedora is pretty leading edge, and Gentoo gets you on the latest and greatest with software sculpted perfectly for your machine. They all have good support communities.

There's always linux-thinkpad and thinkwiki.org too.

i was planing to F7 because its supports Beryl where as ubuntu seems to have problems with it and i do have the Ati V5200 which i assume is the same chip as yours and could u explain the problems u have with the 3D desktop?

Right. I was thinking the T61, which uses Intel or Radeon. I have the ATI X1400, not the same as yours, but the current ATI driver has trouble with suspend and resume.

I can either: Use Beryl and have the eye candy on the desktop, which is fun but not too useful, and not have suspend and resume; or I can use the regular desktop using the vesafb driver and have suspend and resume. I think. I haven't tried 3D in a while.

Thinkwiki.org may be more up do date than I am.

Linux on T60p

Booted up the ubuntu-7.10-beta-desktop-amd64 Live CD on my T60p and it runs like a champ. Running it to compose this message. I like the new WPA support and it runs the Intel 3945 card without a hitch.
I also appreciate that Gutsy Gibbon supports the 1400x1050 resolution with the FireGL v5250. Feisty did not for me.
