Removing / installing Turbo Memory module on T61. How to?

#1 Post by smartins » Mon Oct 01, 2007 7:53 am

I have a T61 that came with 1 GB Turbo memory (Part Number 42T0907) and would like to know if anyone knows how easy is to remove it so that I can install on another T61 that did not came with Turbo Memory.

I've looked at Lenovo's hardware removal, installation and location page but the T61 isn't listed there yet:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... PAD-MOVIES

Anyone knows how to remove/assemble the Turbo Memory (PN 42T0907)?

Thanks!

It's very easy if you aren't afraid of opening the computer. Follow the instructions for adding/removing the WWAN card, just skipping over the parts that deal with the antenna.

I have no problems opening the computer, I just have no idea where the Turbo Memory module is.

Anyone can point me to the correct location? Here's a picture of my laptop: http://www.pointstone.com/steven/temp/CIMG0054_crop.jpg

MOD EDIT: Picture without warning, overlimit picture, modified to link.

Red colored component is Intel's flash cache logic chip (turbo memory).

Depending on your machine type, please refer to HMM in the future:

T61/R61.

T61/p.

I looked at the HMM for the T61 but could not find any mention of the Turbo Memory module nor any mention to the part number when searching the pdf.

Anyway, thanks for pointing me to the location of the module.

Perhaps you didn't look harder. Open the HMM from the 1st link I mentioned above, go to page 142, 22 is the number given to the Turbo memory with the same part number you quoted, go back to page 115 and look at the schematic for the location of component numbered 22. Now if you dig deeper, I'm sure you'll find removal procedure somewhere in there too, I am leaving that to you to find.
