T43p - screen blanks out
T43p - screen blanks out
I have a thinkpad T43p 2687D5U which I've been using for the last two years.
Now however, I find that if I move the laptop around or if it gets a little too hot, the screen goes blank. Its sort of a 'dim display' where things are faintly visible. My only options are to either press the standby button and hope that the screen comes back to normal or reboot.
The problem has become so severe that I consider myself lucky if I can work on it for a full hour without the screen giving me problems.
Any help would really be appreciated.
Thank you.

Probably is the video chip getting overheated but is pretty weird to encounter that if you're not gaming or using the GFX chip. Have you measured your laptop temperatures. Use TPFanControl to do that

Thanks for your reply. However, I do not think its specifically because of the heat. I've sometimes encountered the problem even when the system has been switched on for 15 minutes.
I did read about motherboard flex and something to do with the GPU on other thinkpad models i.e T42 and below. However, I'm not sure if anyone has had a similar problem on the T43p.

You said the display is faintly visible? Does the LCD have a reddish tint when you turn it on? If so, then you need a new backlight for your LCD... or a new LCD. If not, then it's probably either your FL Inverter or LCD cable (which is rare). Even less likely is a motherboard issue.
Either way, dim video is usually caused by a faulty backlight or a faulty FL Inverter. If it doesn't have the reddish tint to it though, it probably isn't the backlight.

I have the exact same issue. Let me save you some time and a great deal of money. I have replace the cables, the inverter, and the LCD and I still have the issue. It appears to be a MB issue. I have used an external monitor for the past month without any problems so that would tell me the video card is fine (if I'm off on this one please let me know). I am anxious for someone to solve this issue. i have notice a great deal of companies offering to fix the LCD MD issues in the past couple of months. This increase tells me there is a problem.

Probably the backlight. I had to replace the LCD display on my T42 several months ago due to a bad backlight.

Can I simply swap out my T5500 CPU in my 1953CTO T60 with a T5600? Or my T2400 core duo in my 2623D6U T60?
