My cursor has started wandering

#1 Post by RBob » Thu Nov 04, 2004 9:06 am

I have a relatively new R51 (1836-H7U), running WinXP Pro SP2 with the latest IBM drivers and utilities.

After it's been on for about a half-hour, the cursor will start to slowy drift toward the upper right corner of the screen. At first, it will move a little and then stop, like a normal recalibration. After a while, it will continue until it disappears in the upper right corner. If I drag it back, it will slowly crawl back to the corner. Later, it starts moving faster and the machine becomes unuseable. Rebooting doesn't help, although shutting down and re-starting fixes things for a little while.

There's not a chance in the world that this is software related, is there?

I've never had occasion to contact IBM about a problem with this machine under warranty; where do I start?

I have had the same problem when my trackpoint cap was becoming old and "worn out".
Have you tried to remove and then replace the trackpoint cap? That usualy helps for me.

Yep; figured out how to put in a "service request" on Thursday morning,
and got a callback in about 3 minutes.

After making sure I had all the correct drivers etc., the tech diagnosed a
bad keyboard and sent one out.

I'd have it right now if it hadn't been sent UPS with an in-person signature requirement.
