help: unable to hide battery icon!
Several people have asked about this, and we keep coming to the conclusion that basically you cannot get rid of it entirely. The checkbox for "Always display battery icon in system tray" only removes it when on AC power, but as soon as you switch to battery it reappears. The easiest solution is to ignore it, but if you really hate it just set it as one of the "Always hide" icons in Taskbar & Startmenu properties dialogue box (right click on taskbar, properties).

Unfortunately, that's the same case with the utterly useless "Safely remove hardware" icon as well. I think MS is getting kickbacks from display manufacturers for taking up so much space that we're forced to get higher-res screens.

I just asked MS, and this is what they said.skanky wrote:come to think of it yeah the safely remove hardware icon doesnt disappear too! argh!
i notice in win2k there is an option to display that icon in the systray, why on earth has it been removed for winxp!
Microsoft: Our customers are obviously too stupid to make a reasoned judgment, and are the kind of guys who would just pull a drive out of the bay while it's running. So we're saving y'alls from yourself by making this tiny blip of an icon permanent. That'll solve the problem.
