Help with T23 video drive issue (pic inside)

#1 Post by greatbox2k8 » Wed Oct 03, 2007 7:39 am

Hi,just run the Dxdiag tool and found the button about "direct3d accelerator" which is not available!(see the follwoing pic) I tried to reinstall the video drive and motheboard chipset from the official site, the same problem remains there.
Any suggestions to solve the problem?
My os is winxp pro ver2002 without patching sp1/sp2. machine modelm is 2648. The video card is 16MB s3 supersavage/ixc 1014.

I wish that I had a working T23 to test this for you, but I think that the reason that it isn't available, is because the graphics can't do it....but, I could be wrong. I know I tested this previously on one of my systems, and I thought it was a T23, and I ran into the same thing.

the issue troubled me long time, actually,I googled the relative information before posting here, but there were no answers for mine. I just found one who got the same machine and said he could disable the direct3d button. In other words,it could work under that method. So I think the video card shoud support the direct3d acceleration.Due to the thread's aged,it's hard to find the original paster and ask the details. I,however,am lucky to find here, and hope to get a resolution.

Hey greatbox2k8,

The exact model of your laptop would be 2648-XXX with the "X's" being the model.

Did you download these drivers - VIA-SuperSavage

Or have you ever tried these - IBM for XP

Some models of T23's used SS/IC/X+ chips, that's why I ask for the specific model of your T23.

If you do a search in this forum you'll find some drivers linked that are more current, Japanese I think, that gave better performance. I don't remember the members name that posted the links.

Just remember your using laptop designed for the "Business" crowd which means that the graphics aren't going to be stellar even if you get D3D enabled.

Have never fooled around with the dxdiag program on my T23 until now, so here's the info from my 2647-HNU:

http://www.kawakami-ca.com/images/dxdiag1.gif (18KB)

What is different from your setup is the display size (1400x1050) and color depth (16 bits). My system passes all of the Direct3D tests in both 16bit and 32bit modes. Also, my DirectX version is 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) from the "System" tab of dxdiag.

edit: OS is WinXPP SP2 with 1024MB of memory and as far as I know, the standard video drivers:

It looks like your using the IBM supplied drivers Ray, I can tell by the extra S3 apps and the "On Screen Display (OSD)" tab.

To phool@round:sorry for the missing part, the full model is 2648-4PA. And I did try the IBM for XP drive, but nothing changed, I don't think my video is comatible with another one. Anyway, thank you for your suggestions.

To rkawakami:I already installed the dx9.0c. To compare your and my, I found the following differentiae.
firstly,my screen is only to support maximum at 1024X768. Yours has got a higher resolution.
Secondly,at the drive sector of dxdiag tool, your pic shows a ddi version:8. Mine is just n/a. :? . So could you tell me what the hell that means?
Finally, about the video self information, the major difference is about directx media version.(check the circle in pic)

And also you patched the sp,I didn't do it. So is it possible to cause the problem?

After I read this; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DirectX_Media

I think I see the problem.......

......I think it might be because of the patch level.

SP1a was a large bug fix and might be all you need. SP2 was more of a security flaw fix.

Both are available as of this post, I checked.

I never renewed any update before,so the IE just came with the original system. The version is 6.0.2600.0000.xpclient.010817-1148. Is it related?

This is taken from the link I posted; "DirectX Media runtime components were distributed as part of Internet Explorer."

Lately they have been included with DirectX up to 2005. You have DX9 but it's not working as advertised. So, I think you are looking at SP1a for sure and SP2 you should for the security. XP's the most hacked OS on the planet next to Windows 98.

Unless you have a bootleg copy of XP I can only think of one other reason for not downloading.........dialup........you can order the CD's from Micro$oft. I don't think there is any licsensing restriction for New Zealand.....

sounds reasonable.I got another question, it seems a little off the topic.
Actually, I got a xp disk with sp1 so far,is there any ways to extract the sp1 from the disk?'cause I just want to put on sp1 only rather than the whole system.

I think it's all-in-one. It's XP with SP1 already applied. Hey, it would get you half way there.......
