Interesting devlopement on my T40

It resently started with a backlight problem where the backlight goes out after a period of time. I don't think it's the main board. I'm pretty sure it's either the backlight itself or a cable/connector to it. Temporarily, I've hooked up an external monitor.

Some time ago, I started having an occasional problem where Windows Explorer or Control Panel would either lock up or drop out when using it. I went nuts trying to cure the problem but couldn't seem to do it. Since I put the external monitor on it, the problem with Windows Explorer and Control Panel has gone away. I suspect the backlight problem might have been causing noise in the system that caused the problem before the backlight going out started occuring. I've also noticed that accessing disk files has speeded up since I put the external monitor on.
