No MORE WUXGA on T61P?

#1 Post by rayZR » Wed Oct 03, 2007 5:42 pm

 I was going to order my machine around the Columbus day weekend but I was shocked to see that IBM has removed the WUXGA 15.4 from its choices..
And I want my notebook with a WUXGA

Any thoughts or ideas on this???

I have a T61p, and the same LCD running 2.4 GHz, great laptop if its running single chanel ram.

If I put in dule chanel (2x2GB ram = 4GB) it will overheat and power off. Im considering asking for my monie back if the next one does the same thing (they are sending me a NEW one to see if it will work 'my 2 cents: Motherboard is a design flaw')

I did... for some reason... the people over the phone want to quickly cash in on the mad rush.. instead of helping out. This guy basically didntknow why it wasnt on the option in the webpage... and blamed supplies...this Lenovo site sucks...
I also found a link that takes me to a T61P page that even offers the T7800 2.6 Ghz cpu.. but apparently it isnt available....

So im hoping that the WUXGA is back on the site and I can find some good ecoupons.. :?

There is an industry wide shortage of the WUXGA models. I work for IBM and the refreshes we've requested internally are on backorder and all the major players are impacted.

Part of the issue has to do with the manufacturers forcing the move to wide screen. Re-Tooling and production are backed up again.

Keep trying, they will be available soon.

Good Luck

Thanks Jim,

That is very helpful .. coming from someone who works for IBM.... but my main question is do you think theyll be available before the 8th of October.. before the 25% sale ends?

no, they won't.   you must call your order in.   if you have a legitimate coupon to use on the site then inform the salesperson and he/she will apply it to your order.   i assure you that there's no need to panic.   just be patient and call in your order to 800-96-THINK.

good luck.

Thank Erik,

I hope you're right... However.. i dont see how the reps will be able to build a quote If their websystems dont show the WUXGA as an option.. and I wouldnt want to wait for 4 weeks or more for the delivery.

Also have you seen this link?
Link

According to this link.. you could technically order a machine with a 2.6 GHZ machine for the same price of a 2.4 GHZ. If this page is a web glitch... how come they havent taken it off?
I've been able to access this page for the past 3 days now.

MOD EDIT: Modified very very long link, please use tinyurl in future. Thanks.

sales reps can order systems and options not shown online.   their database is much larger than what customers can see or access on the website.

the price of the 2.6GHz T7800 is correct.

the link you provided appears to have come from an anniversary sale promotion.   if it allows you to spec a T61p to your liking at a price that works for you then i'd recommend using it before the promotion ends.

Hi Erik,

I called the rep and asked him to about this again and he insists, this is a web glitch and that after I would add my credit card info to order the machine.. it would show me an error..... If tihs is true.. why dont they just take that page off???

any thoughts on this?

This is a major nuisance for those of us who will settle for nothing less than UXGA and who have to act as sysadmin/procurement/tech support for an entire family. With multiple ThinkPads, some out of warranty, all needed by their respective owners for everyday use, I need to be able to order a new computer on a moment's notice if one of the family computers bites the dust. I might be able to get away with a two- or three-week wait, but when the only models with decent displays are pulled from the site for weeks or even months at a time, this is absurd. I'll probably have to order a UXGA model from the clearance center that I don't even need right now, just so I'll have a backup if one of the other computers fails.

But then, maybe this is just an unrealistic sense of entitlement brought about by our just-in-time instant gratification economy.

This defective mother board will power down when the ram is >= 75% full >= 3GB then it will power off.

If you need proof please google download MEMTEST+;

... Unzip it, then burn the resulting ISO.

... Boot the disk just made above.

... Once program loads it will only scan 3GB of 4GB.
so you must press (C)onfig 'C'.
now select test bios memory ALL.

... it is here that the program will stop and freez with errors

or

... load windows and fill the ram with >3 GB, if unsure do the above steps instead. it is this step that will power off the laptop.

sounds like you have a defective memory module or two.   i ran memtest+ for 10 hours straight when i got my 2GB crucial DDR2-667 modules without a single error the whole time.   i even tested the original 1GB module for 4 hours and it tested perfectly as well.

i'm with barry... this is easily the best thinkpad i've ever owned or used -- and that's a lot of thinkpads. ;)

Memtest86+ may have a problem addressing more than 3gb. I tried doing the config thing to test all 4gb and had it show a bunch of errors and lockup with my T61p. My T61p has no problems so I am pretty sure my memory is good and memtest86 is the problem. The same happened on my X61s when I had memtest86 configured to test all 4gb.... but I just got this memory so its not really been used much yet.

I have tested the RAM (they sent me a next new sodimm) so now i have 3 x 2GB sodium in ALL. They have been tested all of them one at a time in memtest+ and all worked fine (tested for over 3 hours each it was 7-8 pass's each one; three in all). This is IBM/Lenovo ram, orderd from Lenovo FRU#40y7735

So the problem is NOT the individual ram but only when they are installed in (2 at a time) duel channel.

This is a awsome laptop BUT mine is defective and they have been promising me a new one now for over 40 days and im on a waiting list.

Poor customer service, however I do understand they have been telling me its a shortage of LCD's (1900x1200) but i dont believe that they have not sold a LCD in 40 days. if they did sell one they should not have done so and sent it to me not to a NEW customer as I have been promised a new one. Thats a bull story just to shut me up.

as i understand it, lenovo has told you that they are sending you a brand new T61p, correct?   if this is true then their claims of a delay are legitimate since exchange-for-replacement units are treated as new orders.   since both samsung and LG are backordered on WUXGA displays, this is unfortunately causing delays with lenovo and ultimately with your order.

An update on memtest86+ testing 4gb of memory. I think you need to just let memtest86+ load and test. I think when you tell it to test all memory you are testing the memory hole where the bios and other stuff resides. Thats why it gives errors and locks up. If you let it proceed normally it skips the memory hole using e820 memory map in the bios. I have watched it test for awhile and I see it testing above the 4gb range where the memory has been remapped to.
From my X61s:
"Testing: 116K - 3063M 4022M"
"Testing: 4096M - 5056M 4022M"

From my T61p:
"Testing: 116K - 3071M 4030M"
"Testing: 4096M - 5056M 4030M"

WXUGA 15.4" purchase issues

#24 Post by msol77 » Wed Oct 10, 2007 10:45 pm

So in sum- one can get WVUGA 15.4" version with patience and all of the memory
will work efficiently???
My IT friend says their recent TP T61(s) are not working well but it sounds like there are little fixable problems.
More comments appreciated
