I got a used T22, and the ac adapter that came with it was pooched (it was free so who can complain) . I bought a "universal adapter" with a maximum output of 70 watts, which should be close enough. The battery charges ok, but if I plug in/unplug the adapter, the laptop powers off. The unit runs fine on the battery alone.
Any opinions?
Thanks!
T22 doesn't like my ac adapter

Welcome to thinkpads.com!
First off, check and make doubly sure that the center (i.e., the hole) of the DC plug is positive and that the outside barrel is negative 16.5V DC or there abouts.
edit: Oh, and make sure that the adapter can supply at least 4.5 amps of current at the 16V setting. Some universal adapters state their wattage at the lowest voltage setting which is not really right because the current capacity will drop when the voltage is raised. In other words, the adapter might supply 14 amps at 5 volts (70 watts) but maybe only 3.5 amps at 16 volts (56 watts).
